How do you set your goals?

Let’s be realistic here!!!! Nearly half the resolutions that people set fail and most by the end of January. The one thing missing is the person not being realistic with themselves or there goal. Are you setting your goals to be attainable? Here is a few tips to help you be more successful at setting goals and making them reachable!

1. Time – If your goal is to read a book a month, lose 50 lbs or get a body weight snatch….do YOU have the time to put in the effort throughout the year to reach that goal? If you work 5/6 days a week and have to take the kids to practice, ball games and etc. these goals may be drastic. Set smaller goals that fit your time! Start a book and finish it, lose 5 lbs a month, and PR snatch at 5 or 10 lbs.

2. Sensible – Make sure the goals you are setting are actually achievable. If you are close to a body weight snatch then great but if you are 50 lbs off then you are more than likely going to fail at achieving this goal. Once again, stick to small achievable steps.

3. Effort – This fails along the lines of time but how much effort are you willing to put toward these goals? What sacrifices are you going to have to take to reach your goals? If you want to lose weight then eating out will have to be cut down and meal prepping will be your best friend. If a PR on a movement is your go to then you will need to spend extra time in the gym a couple days a week working on technique. And if reading more is your goal, then putting down the electronic devices and actually getting a hard back book will more than likely be your best choice.

I’m just as guilty as the next person writing unattainable goals or setting goals and not making time for them. This year has been different and I thought more about my time, effort and how much I’m willing to sacrifice to reach those goals. Don’t be another statistic in this statistical world and prove them wrong. Be Realistic!
